MetroWest Boston Environmental Inspections

Our Services

Thermal Imaging Inspection

Thermal imaging allows us to see what the naked eye cannot. By detecting temperature variations across surfaces, we can identify hidden moisture, insulation deficiencies, air leaks, and other issues that affect your home's comfort, efficiency, and health — all without invasive testing.

Our Inspection Process

1

Baseline Temperature Assessment

We establish baseline temperature readings throughout your home to understand normal thermal patterns before looking for anomalies.

2

Systematic Scanning

Using professional-grade FLIR thermal cameras, we scan walls, ceilings, floors, and around windows and doors to identify temperature variations.

3

Anomaly Investigation

When we identify thermal anomalies, we investigate further using moisture meters and other diagnostic tools to determine the cause.

4

Documentation & Analysis

Each finding is documented with both thermal and standard photographs, along with analysis of what the temperature patterns indicate.

What Thermal Imaging Reveals

Thermal imaging is one of the most powerful non-invasive diagnostic tools available for home inspections. The camera detects infrared radiation emitted by surfaces, converting temperature differences into a visual heat map. This allows us to identify issues that would otherwise require opening walls or ceilings.

Hidden Moisture

Wet building materials appear cooler on thermal images due to evaporative cooling, revealing leaks and moisture intrusion behind finished surfaces.

Insulation Gaps

Missing or compressed insulation shows as distinct temperature differences on exterior walls and ceilings, indicating where your home loses energy.

Air Infiltration

Cold air leaking around windows, doors, and penetrations creates visible thermal signatures that pinpoint exactly where sealing is needed.

Electrical Concerns

Overloaded circuits and loose connections generate excess heat that thermal imaging can detect before they become safety hazards.

In the older homes typical of MetroWest Boston, thermal imaging is particularly valuable. Many homes in Newton, Needham, and Wellesley were built before modern insulation standards, and thermal imaging can quickly reveal where improvements would have the greatest impact.
